Lax trusses of 5-9 orange-red to bright red flowers appear early in spring. Light brown coloured indumentum on leaves that are medium to dark green. Compact habit to about 1.3-1.5m, and wider. Can be susceptible to bark split in very cold climates, so position carefully in affected areas. (September-October) |
Rh. 'Michael's Pride'
The lovely creamy-yellow, tubular flowers, up to 18cm long, on this burmanicum hybrid are striking, especially coming as early as they do. Slight fragrance. New leaves are tinged bronze and contrast well with the flowers. An upright plant to about 1.3-1.5m.
Dislikes wet feet even more than most rhododendrons, so site accordingly. (August) |

Red-purple, frilled flowers carried in trusses of about 16, are blotched with red. Glossy, deep green foliage on an open bush that will grow to 1.8-2.0m. Pinch back shoots to maintain a better shape. (October) |

Rosy-pink flowers, with a deep yellow flare, carried in a truss of up to 14. Slow with a compact habit to about 1.5-1.7m. Tolerates warmer climates and sun, but can suffer frost damage to the buds in very cold areas. (October) |
