Rh. 'Cheer'
Rh. 'Cheer'
Extremely free-flowering bush with pretty rose pink flowers that open paler. Some flowers may begin to open from autumn onwards. Hardier than Rh. 'Christmas Cheer', it is not so widely grown. A densely foliaged, neat bush growing to 1.5m. (September)

Rh. 'Cherry Custard'
Rh 'Cherry Custard'
Said to resemble 'cherry custard ice-cream' this American hybrid will grow to 1.2m (October-November)

Rh. 'Christmas Cheer'
Rh. 'Christmas Cheer'
Pink buds open to a soft, blush pink, fading to almost white, in a smallish truss of about eight flowers. Flowering thought out the winter there is often second, more spectacular, flush in September. A neat, mounding bush to 1.5m, sometimes more, and a wonderful addition to any garden. Very hardy. (July-August)

Rh. 'Coconut Ice'
Rh 'Coconut Ice'

Rh. 'Cornubia'
Rh. 'Cornubia'
A reasonably tender plant (although it withstands frosts on the Canterbury plains) that carries deep blood red flowers in the very early spring, although sometimes not every year, especially when young. Rounded trusses of about 12 flowers. A tall, upright and spreading bush that will grow to 2.0-2.5m. Can suffer from insect damage and some yellowing of the leaves if planted in full sun.

A New Zealand form, 'Ilam Cornubia' has been developed and is considered to be a better plant. (July-August)

Rh. 'Cotton Candy'
Rh. 'Cotton Candy'
A lovely rhododendron despite the cute name, with huge, pale pink flowers carried in a loose truss of 12-18. A hybrid of 'Loderi Venus', 'Colton Candy' has attractive, dark green leaves set off the flowers. A vigorous bush that grows to 2.0m and becoming wider than it is tall. (October)

Rh. 'Cream Crest'
Rh. 'Cream Crest'
A dense and upright growing bush to 1.2m, tolerant of a sunny position. The large, creamy-yellow flowers are carried in trusses of 6-8. Plant to protect the buds from frost, which will cause severe damage. (September-October)

Rh. 'Creamy Chiffon'
Rh. 'Creamy Chiffon'
An unusual, double flower in rich creamy yellow, opening from red-tinged buds, is the main attraction of this neat plant. Quite lovely and very desirable, although some may find it tender. (October)

Rh. 'Crest'
Rh. 'Crest'
Perhaps one of the best yellow rhododendrons, 'Crest' holds its own despite many more recent introductions. A graceful truss of about 12 primrose-yellow flowers opens from the orange-tinted buds. As it only holds its leaves for one year the foliage is sparse and the habit more open and tree-like (2.0m+) than many modern hybrids.

Often planted in light-shade it will stand a sunnier position in most regions and this encourages a more compact habit if desired. (October)

Rh. 'Cupcake'
Rh 'Cupcake'
A yakushimanum hybrid, with the typical compact habit of that species to about 0.5m. Deep rosy-pink flowers in a truss of 10 -15 open from the pretty deep rose-red bud and will cover the bush. Compact, easy and with attractive foliage to boot. (September-October)
