Award Wining Garden
This award-wining garden has many special areas and delightful surprises and is so cleverly planned and planted that it is hard to believe it is so close to SH 1. There is colour and interest throughout the seasons, and almost no bare soil or space to accommodate another plant. Lighting at night extends the interest and creates dramatic scenes.
This garden begins on the street where roses, lavenders and annuals spill out of the border onto the footpath. Overhead, two flowering cherries make a wonderful spring display. The tree-lined driveway is underplanted with rhododendrons and camellias on one side, one the other a small figure-eight grass walk surrounds roses, camellias, daylilies and other colourful plants.
At the side of the house you discover a small wishing well, and then emerge in the back garden where a tiled lower deck is surrounded by a raised beds. A small pond and fountain, containers hold a very old lemon tree, lavenders, azaleas, roses and other colourful plantings. Beyond, on another raised area of decking. The partially covered barbeque area (great in inclement weather) features a small waterfall, a fishpond, tree ferns or 'pungas' and a seat.
Beyond this is yet another small garden room with summerhouse, flowering cherry, fruit trees, the vegetable garden, shade house and very productive hothouse.
Full of interest, colour and delightful surprise it was absolutely no surprise that this garden is an award winner. |
