Botanicas 100 Best Bulbs for Your Garden
Editor Jane Warren (Random House NZ)
100 Best Bulbs is a good summary of bulbs and how to grow them.
There is general advice on planting bubs- the where, why and how - to get the best results from an aesthetic and horticultural point of view. Sound advice, clearly and concisely put.
The book covers most common and some less common varieties and species.
It is very unfortunate, however, to find Ranunulus ficara listed amongst the 100 best bulbs. It is not even marked as 'vigorous', the unfortunate euphemism for rampant, invasive plants. This plant is a pest and should never be sold or given away without an enormous sign that says "I will swamp your spring garden and smother all plants". Every gardener may learn to read between the lines!
This warning aside, this is an excellent book for a beginner, loads of good advice and plenty of great photographs that will have any gardener interested and puling gout the order forms.
