These gardens were developed from a boggy hollow and a gravelly sunbaked bank to beocme one of the most celebrated in Britain. A huge range of perennial and many interesting trees and shrubs. Design and planting follows Mrs Chatto's ecological ideas with her knowledge the requirements and value of any plant being shown to advantage. Woodland and more natural style of garden. Nursery.

Cambridge Botanic Garden
A wonderful botanic garden with special interest in the Winter Garden

RHS Garden Hyde Hall
A garden of just over 3 hectares, Hyde Hall has beautiful borders, roses and spring garden. Hyde Hall holds the National Collection of malus and viburnum. A lovely garden and one full of interesting plants. There are regular gardening events, demonstrations and lectures for RHS members and the public, however tickets must be pre-booked (write to the adress below)

RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Anglesey Abbey
40 hectares of wonderful gardens surrounding historic house. From the snowdrops in late winter until the herbaceous borders in summer and the autumn colour of the avenues and parkland in autumn this is a truly beautiful garden. Seventeenth classic French and eighteenth century landscapes combine with more recent developments.

Blickling Hall
Garden and park surrounding historic Jacobean house. Nora Lindsay designed Victorian sunken garden with herbaceous borders. A wilderness conceals a secret garden and summerhouse, and there is a formal 'wilderness' garden planted with lime, beech and turkey oak. Eighteenth century wooded landscape with magnificent trees and a lake. Plant Nursery, restaurant.

Ickworth
Italianate gardens and parkland surrounding late eighteenth century house. Silver garden, Edwardian herbaceous borders and conservatory. The parkland and garden contain many rare trees.

Peckover House
These gardens cover 97 hectares and contain a feast of plants and fdifferent gardens and gardening styles. There is always something of interest. The sheer diversity of garden styles means that not all will appeal, and the garden lacks an overall design coherence. It is still high on list of places to visit plants and lessons to be learnt.
