Eden garden, sweeping paths draw you on

Eden Garden, Auckland, NZ

Eden Garden is an example of what can be done in some of the warmer parts of the country. Tucked into the slopes of Mt Eden, minutes from the Auckland City Centre, Eden Garden has simply loads of lovely camellias for you to see in this season. A handsome and peaceful garden.

So much to see! Check out our Gardens Open Listings for more gardens.

Trott's Garden, Ashburton, NZ

Trott's Garden, Ashburton, NZ

On the outskirts of Ashburton, Trott's Garden has deservedly won an Award of Garden Excellence from the Canterbury Horticultural Society. It has also been featured in many publications and on television. The scale of the garden is impressive, and the standard of care humbling.

Wilson's Mill Garden, New Zealand

Wilson's Mill Garden - Woodland planting

Wilson's Mill Garden, Ohoka, is a large landscape garden, one of a very few in New Zealand. There are wonderful clear vistas, avenues, a lake (complete with row boat) and some skilful planting.

Moss Green Garden, Akatarawa, Wellington

Garden Review - Moss Green Garden, Akatarawa, Wellington
Deep in the bush-clad Akatarawa Valley you will find Moss Green garden. Here Jo and Bob Munro have built a wonderful and individual garden with an impressive range of plants.

Madoo, Long Island NY, USA

Madoo, Long Island NY, USA
Created over 40 years by the painter Robert Dash, Madoo is a uniquely personal expression. The planting is especially skilled - Long Island is subject to cold, severe winters and hot dry summers. Plants must be tough to survive here and Dash has selected those that flourish.

There are no clichés here, although many elements have been copied and used in gardens elsewhere.

Gardens to Visit
Gardening in New Zealand is about as diverse as it can be and a huge range of plants can be grown in unique and inspiring schemes.

The Briars near Mount Cook is well worth a visit, an impressive garden in a tough climate, while Stuarts Garden in Wanaka is full of wonderful treasures.

For formal spendour and restful shade, Trotts Garden on the outskirts of Ashburton is a wonderful garden. Cross Hills Gardens,, Kimbolton has plantings of interest in all seasons. Tapuwae, Te Kuiti, is a large country garden.

Auckland Gardens

There are so many lovely gardens in Auckland, 'City of Sails', that choosing where to go is a tough decision for the visitors.

In central Auckland the Winter Gardens' conservatories are full of colour while the Auckland Domain parkland make for a fascinating walk.

North of Auckland City gardens such as Mincher and Woodbridge are worth a visit, both are open all year by appointment.

The Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens at Manurewa will take at least an entire day to explore fully! (See our Review of this garden)

For roses you can't go past the Nancy Steen Rose Garden (see the review of this garden) and the neighbouring Parnell Rose Gardens.
