Giardino di Boboli, Florence
The Giardino di Boboli in central Florence were built by the powerful Medici family. They are typical of many Italian gardens of the time, walled but with views out over the surrounding countryside. Formal in style there are long avenues and an interesting series of terraces above a central basin of water. Parterres, fountains and clipped topiary abound. Although they can be busy, the Boboli offer a welcome respite from crowded Florence. The gardens are of considerable interest to those interested in garden design and formal gardens.
