Flower Market
The Great Hall had a huge array of fresh flowers which member odd of the public could buy.
Extravagant Floral Displays from high fashion to banquet settings were on display and jam full of ideas and inspiration. Floral creativity at its best.
Demonstrations by eminent florists introduced the mysteries of floral art, illustrating several different styles and types of arrangement, inspiring new ways to use flowers and foliage. We were stunned, and humbled, by the apparent ease with which gorgeous bouquets were swiftly thrown together.
Delbard Rose Collection
The Delbard Rose Collection making their Australian debut at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show was the only disappointment of the show. Named after the impressionist painters, The Painters Roses were indeed very pretty and their brilliant colours would make a statement in the garden or in a floral display. The display of buckets of these wonderfully coloured flowers did not show us a single plant and none were identified, nor available to aspiring owners. |

Food And Entertainment
Informal eating areas were well supplied with tables and chairs in the shade of the Carlton Gardens wonderful trees. Visitors certainly took full advantage of the casual café-style coffee vendors and footstalls scattered through the grounds and could be seen chatting and relaxing, planning the next move, sharing purchases, watching the world go by and simply enjoying the day.
Jazz bands, classical musicians and big bands wandered throughout the Gardens entertaining the visitors with their music and their imaginative costumes. Roving performers, including extremely tall chaps on silts and some human-sized bugs and butterflies, amused and entertained.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is indeed a great gardening event: great inspiration, great displays, great shopping and great fun. An entire day whizzes past as you move from one enticing display to another, admiring, choosing and writing scrawled notes. The coffee and food vendors under those magnificent trees are essential to replenish and recharge. The atmosphere is fun and visitors buzz with excitement of a good time. |
